May is Festival Season

There seems to be an abundance of family friendly events lately. Holly and girls spent a Saturday in the mountains for the Canmore Children's Festival. Met up with our friends Rhona and Sophia for some crafting, astro-jumping and other free entertainment. Mark opted out to go mountain biking. We let him as he's been super busy working. The following Friday the girls attended the Malambo Fusion Dance show at the Calgary Children's Festival. http://www.malambo.ca/video.html
We purchased tickets for that performance but spent the rest of the day watching the outdoor free shows and getting face paint, cotton candy and hot dogs. Sonia volunteered for the final stunt of the High Strung Aerial Dance show http://www.highstrung.ca/gallery.html

They were looking for someone who was athletically inclined, less than 80 pounds, and who's bedtime was before 10pm. I laughed and said "that's you Sonia" and she ran right up to the stage. She got to have a 'costume change' (she came out with a flourescent vest and bike helmet). The acrobats laid out an extra crash mat with the chalk outline of a girl with pigtails, then they got into position on the trapeze and hoisted up Sonia, swinging her by one arm and leg. She got to take a big bow at the end.
